Lessons we have learnt!
Jun. 8th, 2004 01:30 pmNumber one lesson learnt today is...... never play catch with a child that cannot throw. Or rather, do not attempt to look cool with a child that cannot throw!
Squeak wants to learn to juggle (just like his uncle joda_vibe), but in order to juggle, he has to learn to catch (and throw!) So we're trying to teach him, and this can get quite frustrating and then you end up throwing harder than you meant to. To cut a long story short (too late), I caught a ball that had been randomly thrown in my direction-ish and caught my nail. Which cracked it, below the quick. So it had to be removed (very traumatic) and now it hurts, and looks ugly, and I'm willing it to grow in time for my b'day. Poot!
Also I've forgotten one of my rngs this morning, and now I feel naked without it. It's the one I wear all the time (mainly cos Jodaboi bought it!), keep going to play with it, but it's not there!
Spent over an hour on the phone to my wonderful friend Claire last night. Have decided to do Witchfest on the Sunday, as both Theresa Moorey and Dorethy Morrison (first talk outside US!!!!!!!!) will be there. am now VERY excited, and it's not until Nov. I know valkyrie_n_1 will be going, you coming too tru_loo?
Couple of things, I'm thinking of getting my tongue pierced, and possibly a tattoo in the future. It took me 2+ yrs to get my belly-button done, so I don't rush into these things. The tattoo is definately going to be more spiritual than not, as to get your body marked permanently is a very spiritual thing. But I'm looking for good designs, so far I've not seen anything that has screamed YES! and I don't want Celtic crap (appologies to those with Celtic tats!)
Any advice etc that you can give me on those two would be much appreciated (particulaly the toungue thing - namely pain factor)
Finally - HELLO to indovan - back in the country after disappearing to Florida for 3 weeks - welcome back and we love you!

Date: 2004-06-08 11:37 am (UTC)It does swell up a fair bit, and it's impossible to eat anything for a few days (and it mega hard whilst learning again), oh, and WATCH OUT FOR FORKS! The tines of a fork are your worst enemy whilst your tongue is healing! Use Difflam (pricey, but worth it) to wash your mouth out, and make sure the barbell is of a sufficient length when you are pierced to allow for comfortable swelling.
Don't drink alcohol or take aspirin before the piercing (it'll thin the blood) and when it's been done, it's best to avoid alcohol still, and don't smoke either! (don't think you do anyway!) Drugs (recreational) are a no-no as well (and damn right as well, nasty things!).
Soups and ice cream are fab, but watch out as the metal will conduct heat/cold! After a few days you can try mashed potato, or any other soft foods, but be very careful to wash your mouth out after eating to avoid getting food particles in the piercing.
Over-use of mouthwash *can* make your tongue go a funny colour - saltwater is best for rinsing, and leave the Difflam to a few times a day, max.
*Please* make sure you go to a reputable piercer, and make sure they check your tongue very carefully to make sure it is suitable for piercing... you have veins and nerves and also that fleshy bit underneath which must not be pierced! If your tongue has a very short reach and a tight fleshy part underneath (have forgetten the proper name!) a good piercer will *not* pierce your tongue as it might cause problems if it goes in the wrong place.
All in all, it is a fun piercing to have, just make sure you want it done and can deal with the healing time! I will take you out for icecreams and soups if you have it done! :)
Tattoos... well, I could go on for ages, but I'm already cluttering up your journal! :)
Love,
Min

Date: 2004-06-08 12:26 pm (UTC)Tongue piercings are fairly painless but then i got numbed twice, though the healing is a bugger especially if like me you tear your tongue. Besides you don't really see much of whats happening as it's done in about 5 mins.

Date: 2004-06-08 12:37 pm (UTC)I lived on semi melted ice-cream via straw, milkshake, homemade smoothies cus i was able to beef em up with mashed banana and finally rusks. You will prolly drink lukewarm stuff too. Like i said straws are better as you can just wedge them done the sides of your mouth, guided by a row of teeth.
After two or three weeks they will stick a slightly smaller bar in your mouth and that's when food becomes easier but as soon as you get it done they should give you a leaflet on the do's and don't and what to expect and not too expect like if you one of the lucky ppl, whose tongue should bleed. I will point out not everyones does.
i had to wash my mouth out with salt water 4 times a day after food and stuff and do mouthwash only once in the morning and just before bed (the mouthwash might sting a lil).
