Hummm, just learnt from [livejournal.com profile] faerieevenstar's lj how much they are leaving out of HHGTTG. They've massacred the movie! Such a shame, the book is so hoopy, and fun!

On to happier things! Chrissi - need advice on MAC lippy. I did leave an FAO on the forum, but I don't think you saw it. I need a decent lippy for work, nothing too confrontational and something with a bit of staying power. I've used Viva Glam for nigh on 10 yrs now, but I think it's a bit much for work. I was wondering about Viva Glam IV, still red, but a bit softer. Have you tried it, seen it etc? Any advice welcome!

On the subject of MAC, do they do a sweetie purple nail colour? Like a pastel purple? I love their nail varnishes, they last for ever, and are so yummy. And I must not be allowed near ebay! That place is dangerous! It's nice to be able to get back into MAC actually, I've used them for years, recommended/enabled 2 ex's and the beautiful [livejournal.com profile] dark_delirium, in a one woman war on bad quality make-up (and skincare). If I had my way, whenever ppl got to the age of 18-20, and they were still using shite Spectacular, I would make it law that they be given £100 to replace foundation, eye colour, and brushes! There should be a law against it!

Am currently waiting for the MotoGP to start (most exciting, go Rossi), what a weekend for sport, Grand National and MotoGP, does it get any better than this!!! I don't think so. Would love to see the National live one day, well, I've seen all other sports that I've been interested in live. 2 WWF shows at the NEC (one featuring Kerry Von Erich - Texas Tornado in his last match before he OD'd), and I was a Summerslam in Wembley. Yes, people I used to be a rabid wrestling fan, have seen it recently, and it's not a patch on how it used to be. Shame. Oh and I've been to live bike racing. So just Ladies Day at Ascot, and the National to go!

Right, Mr Jodaboi wants his puter back, so I'm saying bye bye! See you all on Weds at Stigmartyr!

Unfortunately I haven't seen Viva Glam IV yet, Harvey Nichols haven't got it in yet, or if they did it sold out quickly as they had pink lipglass (Viva Glam V - very nice though!) and lipstick (either Viva Glam II or Viva Glam V - also very nice) in the Viva Glam standee thing, so can't give any advice on that, sorry!

Nail polish - Hi Lily Hi Lo looks very pastely and might have been the one I was looking at the other day, I know I saw one in store. Looks like the wingtips (or whatever they were called) were limited edition then, they have disappeared from the website. I think there was a lovely pastel purple in that range. Damn!

Bugger, that might have been the one I had in mind. Will have to look on Sat. Otherwise, off to ebay!

I think at least 1 of the MAC shops here (we have 3!) should have Viva Glam IV in, I really don't do pink (too mumsie), and love the way red makes me feel. Don't do purple either, makes me look ill :-)

... The original first book of the 5 was based on 4 episodes of the original 6-episode radio series. From what I've heard of the movie, it incorporates book 2 (The Restaurant at the End of the Universe) as well, which incorporates the Christmas episode (7), a further 5-episode series, and episodes 5 and 6 of the first series, in that order, for a total of 12 episodes.

If memory serves, each episode was 30 mins long X 12 episodes = 6hrs.

And that's without the panning shots, lead-ins, fade-outs and all the other visual frou-frou that's not needed on radio.

Watching a film of THAT length is for Star Wars sad sacks in the comfort of their parents' basement.

The mistake here isn't leaving stuff out, it's in biting too much. Movies are best based on short stories, not novels, especially those where so much of the detail/action is deliverable only by voice-over.

Yaran and I will, however, be first in line when it comes out, even without the Vogon love poetry...

Yeah, but no babel fish, no towels, no Deep Thought, no Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, no explaination of Magrathea...... What's left?

It'll be okay...

DA was a compulsive re-writer who had to be smacked quite hard to finalise anything in print, and as a result, everything of his is jam-packed with passing references, allusion and mad ideas - some of it is just a list of funny ideas wrapped in a wisp of plot. in THHGTTG, some really famous things only merit a sentence or two across the the whole series.

It's pity they didn't do a LOTR on it (be a lot more bloody interesting) but I can hardly believe it's here - didn't DA sell the rights in '83?

Yep, it took this long to bring it to the screen! I think there were contract wrangles etc!
